Jake's class has been covering a huge animal unit at school. Jake has had to do a project that is worth two test grades. It has been a big deal. I am proud of Jake really pacing himself to get it done and not dreading it. It helps that he picked a cool animal--the Thorny Devil Lizard.

Mother's Day weekend...
This was a wonderful Mother's Day weekend for me. We started the weekend off with two winning baseball games for Jake's team. They did an awesome job. Jake was able to solidly hit the ball and fielded a couple of plays. He is now playing 2nd base and catcher a lot. He is actually catching some of those balls at home plate! Go Jake!
Saturday morning, the kids and I went to the strawberry farm. It was so muddy though! I couldn't push Laura in the stroller and it was too wet to put her down, so Jake did all the picking. We ended up picking almost a whole bucket full. This is what we made with some of those berries:
Saturday afternoon, we went from a beautiful summer afternoon to a huge thunderstorm. The sky went black, just like that! Afterwards the sky turned the funniest colors. At one point, it was a vivid orange and then it turned the brightest purple. We got to see a rainbow out our back window:
Sunday morning, the kids and Sandy gave me cards and a gift. Jake's card was a riot. I always tease him and his friend that I am the queen of our town. They used to pretend that pirates had buried my crown in the backyard and I always am on them to find it :) Jake found a card that claims I am the Queen of Moms and when you open it up, it chants "Oh Hail, our queen..." He found it all by himself. That kid has a quirky sense of humor, I tell you . He also gave me a hand drawn tile and a butterfly suncatcher. How sweet!
I was treated to breakfast and then we got to plant lots of plants. Our seedling died an unfortunate death in our ongoing battle with ants... Long story, but we got new plants from the store and some beautiful flowers to go with them. We started a new pumpkin patch where our old "dirt pile" used to be. The kids are so sad to lose that place to play. I am not, of course, lol! I planted a lot of purple plants this year and even found some daisy type plant that has white petals and a purple center. :) I will take some pictures of those soon.
Here are some photos of Jake and Laura in the yard while we planted. After planting and watering, we grilled some steak and chicken. I made up a recipe for black beans and corn and made rice pilaf. For dessert, we ate that awesome strawberry pie. What a great relaxing weekend!
