Summer time....

We have been enjoying the summer now that we are finally back home and settled. We have been going to the pool/waterpark a lot. Reading books and hanging out watching movies. Now that the weather is cooling off to normal, we can have our lives back and the kids can play outside.

What was up with that weekend of 106 degrees!!!! I hope we never have a heat wave like that again.

What a week...

Well, it's been a crazy week here. We started off last weekend with a great baseball game and then we went to King's Dominion for Scout Bash 100. We got to do some water rides and then saw a concert put on by scouts celebrating the 100th birthday of the Boy Scouts of America. It was so cool. Jake loved it.

But then we hit the snag of the week. Jake's tooth. On the way home that night, he said his tooth hurt. It got worse the next day. Jake even played baseball with it, but as we were sitting out a rain delay, Jake's pain got worse. The game was cancelled due to the heavy rain and we went to an urgent care center to see about Jake's tooth. They gave him antibiotics but wouldn't give him anything stronger for the pain.

Luckily, we got in early the next morning at the dentist. Jake had been up the night before in really bad pain. Sure enough, his root canal from last November had abscessed. The dentist wanted to keep an eye on it. He didn't want to pull it, because those teeth are needed to hold their spots for the permanent teeth. Again, nothing for the pain as he was sure it would get better.

Next day, Jake misses his second day of school, because he was so tired and swollen. I could have made him go, but it is SOL time and I was barely keeping on top of the aching pain. So I kept him out. Surely, he would be back in school on Wedesday.

Wednesday, Jake wakes up with his face very swollen. Even his eye! The pain isn't that bad, but he is uncomfortable. I called the dentist and they said come on in. His abscess spread to the next tooth which was a root canal also from the same time. Now both have to be pulled, but he couldn't do it due to the swelling.

So Thursday, Jake goes to school. By the way, Jake did play in his baseball games. He wanted to play so bad and I was able to medicate him so that he felt okay. He did great during his games. We are in the final four of the playoffs and Jake is excited to play again Thurs. night.

He comes home from school complaining of back pain and also of some stomach cramping. In just a short while, he is not feeling well and falls asleep. So no game for Jake!

That night he wakes up at 2 am vomiting and his stomach and back hurt so bad. I almost take him to the ER, but we wait it out to call the dentist. Turns out Jake had a reaction to the antibiotics. So we are off of them for a while and watching the swelling. Jake should have his teeth pulled on Wednesday. I hope that ends it for him. He has really suffered. Poor guy!!!!

Memorial Day weekend

We had a nice long weekend. We saw movies, played baseball, went for long walks, cooked out, swam in a baby pool... It was just nice family time. In the video, Laura is point to some birds. It was getting ready to storm. The clouds had moved in quickly. All of the birds flew and sat in our trees with our feeders. Bluebirds, Cardinals, finches or wrens (always get those mixed up). Laura loves birds so she was excited. :)

Still no pictures

Sorry that there are no photos still. We haven't figured out what has happened to our pc. So here is what we have been up to...

Last night, I took the den on a den hike to finish up our Leave No Trace award. We walked on a cool trail that was through many neighborhoods but lined with woods so that we felt like we were in our own world. It is on an old confederate railway. The boys did a scavenger hunt on the way up. We crossed some railroad tracks to see a creek. The creek was lined with rail road ties. No one knows why in my group. That will be interesting to find out. Then on the way back, we picked up litter. Don't know why people throw trash everyone. Absolutely lazy! We found a tree frog that was about the size of a dime. So cute! It was a good time. :)

Jake is doing well in school. He is learning decimals now. Can you believe it???? The things they learn so early now. Laura is good also. She is still such a character. She wants all her toys downstairs all together. So she brings them one by one and stacks them together. Usually she wants you to hold it all so she can sit in your lap. She wants all her favorite things together. I guess we should be flattered.

I have been trying to walk everyday. It is so beautiful now, even though it has been a little too hot for my liking. We have planted most of our garden. I can't wait for those summer tomatoes!

Well, we will keep working on the photo issue. I have some good ones to share! :)

photos...

I am having trouble uploading photos to any site. My pc is not recognizing the disc drive. As soon as we have it figured out, we will be able to update with some photos of the kiddos.

We are almost at the end of our back to back baseball game week. Jake's team lost Thursday night, tied Friday night and won Saturday night. We have a game tonight. Jake has done real well. He loves playing catcher the best. His hitting is really improving and you can see his confidence is so much better than last year. Every time he is on and off the field, he is smiling. He is having such a good time. Jake told us that he likes catching the best, but that any position is good. The only place he doesn't like is the bench--he would rather be out there helping the team. :)

Laura is a hit at the games. She is getting over her shyness. She begs for food though. When anyone starts eating fries or chips, she walks over there and just smiles until they give her some. Tonight, I am bringing a bunch of snacks so we can "repay". lol! Laura has the best time though, climbling the lower step of the bleachers and playing in the dirt. She is such an outdoor girl. And she actually lets us watch the game, by staying close by.

Today is a cleaning/sewing day. I have been straightening up, but as soon as Laura takes a nap, I need to sew some patches on Jake's cub scout uniform. And I will hopefully be finishing up my quilt project. Can't wait for it to be finished! And then I can post a photo of it, if we get our pc to work!!!

Been sick...

Sorry, I haven't updated. I was very ill last week. I think I had a really bad case of strep throat. I was pretty much bed ridden by it and even now, I am not exactly 100 percent. But I am getting there. You don't appreciate your health until you don't have it!

So Jake is doing well in baseball. He gets a lot of compliments for catching. He looks like the real deal at that position. But the most important thing, he is having fun!

Scouts is going great. I worked on their whittling chip tonight. They did really well and we had no cut fingers! It was fun to just carve soap and talk. They are too funny!

Jake's grades in school are really coming up. Today he had to dress up as Martin Luther King, Jr. and do a little speech. He was so cute when he left this morning. I have a feeling he did well. :)

Laura is doing good. She is so cute. She uses everything as a phone--even her hand. And she has the deepest conversations too. lol! What a character!

Heat Wave...

Boy, is it ever hot this Spring Break. We are up into the 90s today. The thermostat in our house decided to flake out, so we are cooling off with open windows and fans. To think we used to do this all the time, when I was a kid. I am so spoiled with air conditioning.

Easter was very nice this year. Jake earned his horseback riding belt loop and pin for cub scouts. Laura had fun eating lots of junk food and running around the yard. Now that we are back home, we are trying to do some spring cleaning. The heat is putting a damper on that though.

This week, Jake will start his little league season. We will also work on some cub scout electives for fun. He is hoping to make a waterscope. If he does, we might go down to Henricus and see what we see down there.

Even though it is warm, I hope to make some bread tomorrow. I want to make some braided egg bread. It sure looks pretty, hope it tastes that way. :) I am also thinking about making an experimental recipe, but will keep that on the down low until I see if I get the nerve up to try it. ;)
