Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. Eph 4:29

For a few months now, I have really been concentrating on this scripture. I think I am a pretty nice person, but it is amazing when you really think about it, this verse can be hard to follow. It means no gossiping, being encouraging instead of critical, not sweeping things under the rug, but dealing with them as an adult and not being coarse in my humor (another bible verse, but I add it in, lol). I find myself checking myself when I email, post on facebook and when talking to my family and friends... "Nancy, is this wholesome? Are you gossiping? How is this encouraging or am I tearing someone down?" You would be surprised at how applying this filter to your speech really makes you think about how you speak to and treat others, especially those close to you. I am still working on this one, but my next verse is going to be Proverbs 31:27 “She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.” I really need to work on idleness next. What can I say? I am a work in progress.
